ABOUT THE MEDITATION CENTERS. (DRUPDRA)
In the year 1992, Rinpoche’s senior disciple came to ask his permission to go for Retreat. Rinpoche ask his eldest son, Lama Rinpoche Kuenzang Dorji to look into this matter.
With the permission of his father, Lama Rinpoche Kuenzang Dorji led the first batch of Fife meditators in small bamboo huts built by the individuals themselves. In 1995, after completing the three year retreat (LosumChoesum) Rinpoche found a great need for proper Drupkhang (a place where one sits to meditate or propitiate a deity). Under his initiative and with the help of his three brothers, they came up with New Drupkhang (Sang-NgagColling ) accommodating seven practitioners.
From 1997 and onward, Drupdra Sang-Ngag Cholling hosted seven numbers of meditator as a second batch. The retreat location is 500 steps westward from the main monastery.
With request of the late Ven. Lama Sonam Peljor (Meme Tulku) and local people of Lauri, “Thegchok Samten Cholling Meditation Center” was established in 2003. After the death of Ven. Lama Sonam Peljor in 2005, Ven. Tulku Tandin Jatsho looks after the meditation center. It is located above the Lauri village and is a one day walk Northward from the main monastery.
In 2007, “Pema Yoesel Ling Meditation Center” in Dhajukwoong, Barkalangnang, was established upon the request of his followers and local community. It is in the Eastward village of Tashithangye and is a half day walk from the main monastery.
Today, all three centers host no less than 7 practitioners in each batch from a variety of backgrounds, ages and sex. Today practitioners feed themselves although initiatives to serve them with all the necessary accommodations are on the way.
In the near future, Rinpoche plans to set up a proper kitchen system to serve them all.
